Dear Friend,

Three years ago, after a stroke nearly ended my life, I needed advice about a lot of things, but mostly about my life’s path. Only there wasn’t anyone around to lend it. I fell in a lot of potholes along the way, took a wrong turn or two, and ended up in places I never in a million years thought I’d be.  Much in my life has changed: my health, my body, my life’s purpose, my interests, my spirituality, my values, what I hold most dear, what I’m willing to part with, and much more.  I’m still alive – that’s always a good thing!
I can’t help but wish the road had been smoother and that the directions had been less cryptic. It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. True. Only I’m impatient and keep asking “Am I there yet?”
I read books, blogs, and articles written by others who walked a similar path, and I come away feeling even more confused.  Because of space constraints, these writers often don’t get into as much detail as I would like, leaving me with more questions than when I started.  Some of them have a sanctimonious tone or claim that their readers would have everything handed to them on a silver platter, if only they would give their life over to Insert Deity Here. No thanks!
About a year ago I realized that my life’s path is uniquely mine. No one has traveled this exact path before, because no one has lived my exact life before. Sure, there are others on paths with similar trajectories, or paths that seem to run parallel to mine – at least for a while. But no two paths are exactly the same. And that’s why it’s best to go ahead and step in the potholes, and follow the breadcrumbs that expose me to new things. Sometimes I get sidetracked by a detour that’s a waste of time, and sometimes I discover things: wonderful and surprising things.
One thing that is the same for all travelers, are the Rules of the Road. These are universal truths about life that, if followed, increase our chances of a happy life. I hope to use this blog to share universal truths, info about breadcrumbs, and tales from the road. Much like a postcard you’d get from your Aunt, I’m going to share my journey with you. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I hope these posts help you avoid a pothole or two.
Drop me a line if you have a specific question or comment.
Until next time!
